In wireless communication spatial streams are meant for single devices. Wifi client devices receive from and transmit to multiple antennas but they can still only do it one at a time.
That is the parlellism that spatial streams introduce is a single device parlellism
The transmitter will break up one large data stream into multiple smaller streams which the device will assemble into a single stream once more.
This kind multiple input multiple output technology is called SU-MIMO where SU stands for single user.
In practical world, all available bandwidth is rarely distributed by a single device. Consider how many telephone towers we have to distribute the mobile signal.We have multiple devices servicing different parts of area.
So that a single network with its collection of access points is able to serve multiple users simultaneously.
Now, and this is the important part, while the devices still use channel sequentially multiple access points mean that there are multiple queues of devices.
This technique is the foundation for MU-MIMO which makes a single network capable of serving multiple users at once using streams.
MU-MIMO may also be applied to a single device which turns a half duplex wireless communication into full duplex. In simple words this means multiple devices can communicate with a single station at the same time without having to wait in a queue.
Improvements in Wireless services not only mean a greater throughput to a single device but also total in crease in network capacity.
It is better to have 4 devices at 300mbps than a single device with 1.2gbps.
The wireless speeds available at the moment are capable of exhausting the most demanding data applications like 4k streaming. Where we lack is in distribution of this speed equally among devices.
